Many newcomers in Canada have been asking about the "Welcome to Canada" cash benefit, but there is a lot of misinformation about it. In reality, this benefit does not exist and you will not find any information about it on the Canada Revenue Agency official website. Instead, Newcomers are eligible for federal and provincial benefit payments such as the GST/HST sales-tax credits, Solidarity Tax Credits (STC) in Quebec, and the Trillium Benefit in Ontario and many others. These benefits can be claimed automatically by filing a tax return. The amount of credits ranges from about $300 to $2,000 a year depending on the province and tax situation.
